In an effort to include as much of the American Indian community and the general public in the Clyde H. Bellecourt Spirit of Education Scholarship Awards, Heart of the Earth, Inc. is hosting a one day traditional pow-wow at the Minneapolis Convention Center on on May 6, 2006 from 1- 9pm. The event will be free and all dancers and drums will be paid an honorarium.

Our ancestors have always acknowledged the skills and leaderships abilities of individuals in our tribal communities. It is with this good thought that Heart of the Earth, Inc. is honoring the six Spirit of Education Scholarship Award winners and their families on May 6, 2006 with songs, dancing and prayers as they begin their life journey through the educational endeavors and goals they have set for themselves. The 2005 Spirit of Education award winners will become the official ambassadors for Heart of the Earth, Inc. and role models for American Indian students who are graduating in 2006.

In hosting the one day traditional pow-wow, Heart of the Earth, Inc., its sponsors and donors would like to remind and encourage organizations that serve American Indian youth and their families of the importance of creating opportunities within our community for cultural based intergenerational activities that involve tradition and reflects the inherent values of our people and community.
